Abstract
This study endeavours to identify the level of job commitment among teaching staff members in the University of Raparin and to demonstrate the role of each of these variables “sex, academic proficiency, qualification, administrative skilfulness, job status” on the level of job commitment among the teaching staff members of the University of Raparin. The entire population of the setting where the research has been made includes 226 permanent and temporary teaching members in the academic year 2013-2014. The subjects of the study are 49 (32%) academic staff members who have been selected according to stratified random sample from various departments in different faculties and schools of the University of Raparin. To achieve the aims, the researcher has utilized a questionnaire which has been taken from the previous studies and the literature available on education. The questionnaire is composed of 26 statements to measure the level of job commitment by using Arithmetic Mean, Percentages and Spearman Correlation. The study shows that the level of job commitment is high (75.11%) among the teaching staff members and it is revealed that there exist no negative relation between job commitment and the demographic factors. The study recommends that the Ministry of Higher Education should plan to develop administration and innovate the system of the universities (Raparin University in particular). The new system should meet the employees’ needs which leads to providing the causes of stability, job security, objectivity and justice. Another recommendation which the study makes is that a committee in the university should be formed with the aim to have a glimpse at the results of the present study. Then, the university would do something through which he can raise the level of job commitment of the teaching staff and support this high level of job commitment. This can be done by providing the employees’ needs so that they will reach a high level of satisfaction.
