Abstract
This study aims to explore the role of religious fatwas and their impact on the sultans of the Mamluk state, where no sultan could ascend to the throne without obtaining a fatwa from the scholars. Through these fatwas, a Mamluk sultan would legitimize his rule over the Muslims. The issuance of fatwas also played a significant role in the deposition of some sultans and the appointment of others, highlighting the influence of the Dar al-Ifta (House of Fatwa) in the political life of the Mamluk state. The study examines religious fatwas and their impact on the political life of Mamluk sultans. It is structured into an introduction and three main sections. The first section discusses fatwas related to the dismissal of certain officials, the second section focuses on the fatwa concerning the deposition of Sultan al-Salih Hajji, and the third section addresses fatwas related to the execution of certain sultans.
