This study addresses the topic of “Al-Kamal Ibn al-Humam’s Vision of the Objective of Social Solidarity in the Chapter of Zakat: A Comparative Jurisprudential Study”. It sheds light on the role of Imam al-Kamal Ibn al-Humam in highlighting social solidarity as one of the fundamental pillars of Islamic legislation in the obligation of zakat.
The research begins by clarifying the concept of social solidarity in Islamic jurisprudence, focusing on Ibn al-Humam’s interpretation of its purposes and objectives and how these are reflected in zakat rulings. The study emphasizes his dedication to considering the needs of the poor and the needy, channeling zakat to achieve sufficiency and a dignified standard of living, with references drawn from his seminal work Fath al-Qadeer.
The study examines the impact of Ibn al-Humam’s vision on zakat rulings, such as the allocation of its expenditures to rightful beneficiaries, achieving social justice, and addressing poverty. It highlights his comprehensive approach to balancing individual and societal needs. Furthermore, the research discusses practical applications of the objective of social solidarity in zakat, according to Ibn al-Humam’s selections, including supporting developmental projects, paying off debts, and fostering unity, thereby underscoring zakat’s role in ensuring societal stability.
A comparative analysis is conducted between Ibn al-Humam’s methodology in understanding and applying social solidarity and the perspectives of other scholars from various Islamic schools of thought. This comparison reveals the uniqueness of his approach in combining flexible ijtihad with deep-rooted objectives.
