Abstract

She is Maria Louise Augusta Catharina of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenbach, born on Monday, September 30, 1811, at half past two in the morning. She is the second daughter of Grand Duke Karl Friedrich and Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna Romanova, and she is the sister of Alexander I, King of Russia. Princess Augusta was baptized on Sunday, October 6, at half past seven in the evening. This took place in the great hall of Duke Karl's palace, where the entire court and servants were gathered by the priest, the general supervisor and the head of the court, Gogt. The baptism took place with the ringing of bells. As for Augusta's education, Grand Duke Karl was able to attract a whole series of highly educated nobles to Weimar, and they played a major role in Augusta's education. The court tutors taught her the four languages: foreign, Russian, French and Latin, and also included additional subjects in mathematics, geography, history, religion, drawing, horse riding and music. Augusta had political influence because of her social connections and her closeness to her husband, the German Emperor William I, as she was her husband's political advisor
